Removing Those Darn Stitch Marks

I was doing my normal first thing in the morning reading on Facebook and came across this posting. It is about removing those pesty stitch marks that you get when you have to take stitches out of your fabric. I run into this mostly when I do my embroidery stitching, but have had this problem doing my quilting also. Yes...I do have to take out stitches quite often! :)

THE HISTORY OF SAMPLERS

I know a lot of you do needlework and I do also so I thought I would share this article I read the other day in The Country Register of Minnesota. I know I really like the old samplers, but I thought it was really interesting the different types and how they came to be.  

Samplers offer a glimpse into history and the everyday life of early needleworkers. The oldest surviving samplers are dated back to the 15th and 16th centuries. When the woman saw a new stitching pattern, she would quickly sew a small sample of it onto a small, narrow piece of cloth which became her "sampler". The were about 6-9 inches wide and were called band samplers. When unrolled they revealed an assortment of needlework. 

The most common samplers found today are ones that were created by young schoolgirls. they consist of cross-stitched alphabets, numbers, poetry or biblical verses, and little figures, flowers and animals. These samplers were a way to teach young girls the basics of needleworking, and also their alphabet and numbers. The top half of the sampler was usually devoted to the alphabet, while the bottom was a picture, motto, or poem.

Today, samplers are highly collectible and are proudly displayed in the primitive and colonial home decor.

I really like all the old samplers and do quite a bit of embroidery myself so it was interesting to read how they came to be. Wish I was lucky enough to have one of the authentic one's hanging in my house, but alas I don't. :)  Do you have one in your house?

PERSONALIZED PILLOWS

I make these little stitchery pillows for my Etsy shop and I have had several request to personalized them with different words so I thought it might be a good idea to offer this as an option for them. Since I draw them from my own patterns I can put any words and names on them that is needed. So.....how do you think that sounds?

 

I can put a child's name on this or a friends name on it. I think that would be neat.

 

 

 

 

 

 

I can put people's last name on these type of pillows. That would make it special. :)

 

 

I just thought since I was getting request to change these designs that I would make it easier for people to get what they want. I think maybe in the "off" season I may come up with some more designs. I have several, but need some new one's to add to them. Guess that means I need to get my thinking cap on. :)

OFG ON PARADE
