Sorry I haven't been posting lately, but the local shows have been keeping me hopping which is a good thing. :) I just wanted to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the day with your family and friends. TUESDAY TREASURIES

Time for Tuesday's Treasuries...or I guess this week we could call it Turkey Treasuries. Since it is getting close to Thanksgiving for us USAers I thought I would do a treasury with turkeys. BACK FROM VISITING

I am back from spending some time with my daughter and her family, hence why I missed last week’s posting. I had a wonderful time seeing the grandkids playing football and basketball, going to the Halloween parade, walking all around an amusement park and the finale….trick or treating with them. I always enjoy spending time with them even if the air flight down is absolutely horrible!

So, what has everyone been up to? Did everyone have a fun Halloween? Well we are on to Thanksgiving now and then the Christmas rush. I have been busy getting everything tagged and finished for the local Christmas shows. They start this weekend. I have shows the next 3 weekends so November will be pretty busy. I made lots of new tote bags so I am hoping they do well. This is one of them.

 

I did have time recently to read an article about “kitchen shorties” that I thought I would share with you.

·         When you are making Rice Krispie squares, run your hands under cold water before pressing the mixture into the pan. The marshmallow won’t stick to your fingers.

·         To reduce the odor of cabbage, broccoli or cauliflower as it cooks, add a slice of lemon to the water

·         To wash odors like onion or garlic off your hands, scrub them with salt.

·         When making mashed potatoes, preheat the milk and butter so the potatoes stay hot.

·         When mixing bread or pastry dough, use a glass bowl. The dough won’t stick to the bowl making for easier clean up.

·         Keep a large shaker containing salt and pepper mixed at 6 parts salt to 1 part pepper.

·         Instant potatoes are good thickeners for stew.

I especially like the one about using salt to wash onion odors off your hand. Who would have thought this?

Speaking of cooking…for a lot of us it is starting to get colder and with that comes thoughts of cooking and baking all those wonderful holiday treats. One of the favorite treats is gingerbread men so I thought I would share this treasury with you. It includes wonderful items made from the OFG team on Etsy. So are all of you ready for Thanksgiving? What special plans and traditions do you have for the holiday?

Happy Tuesday everyone. Well my summer markets are all done for the year. Actually they really went well. We had a good number of tourist and they love the Alaska themed items we have so they gobbled them up! Now it is off to getting ready for the Christmas shows. Yikes...they are in 8 weeks and I don't have very much stuff done. That means I have to hit the sewing machines pretty hot and heavy!

Well as you all know "fall is in the air". Well at least around here and maybe with some of you also. It is time to start to do your outside autumn decorating and one of the focal points is the front door so here is an article I read about how to "Make a Grand Entrance" into your home. I know some people really go all out in decorating. They all do a really nice job.

  MAKE A GRAND ENTRANCE

Your front door is the first thing your guests see when they arrive to your home. It should be warm and inviting, and should give your guests a little preview of what they will see once they get inside.

Add color:

Make a grand statement by painting your door a rich color such as dark red. Hang a basket full of flowers, a wreath, or a colonial door box on your door; change it out with the seasons.

Add character:

Architectural accents will give your home additional interest. Antique doors, columns, wood shutters, corbels, brackets and hardware will add character to your home. Scour local antique shops for unique and unusual architectural antiques that you can incorporate into your home, both inside and out.

Symmetry vs Asymmetry:

Now it is time to decorate your entrance. Will you use symmetry or asymmetry in your display? Symmetry is pleasing to the eye and the overall look is easy to achieve,but asymmetry can also be used by utilizing like items. All objects should be related in some way so that they complement each other.

Make a grand entrance this season and welcome your guests to your home by using the tips above to give your home character and curb appeal.

WORKING HARD

 Well the local market only has one more Saturday and I must say I am glad it will be over. It was a great season, but most of the tourists are gone and it is getting mighty cold sitting there all day. I know most of you have been baking in the heat this year so talking about cold is not in your vocabulary. Up here it is like the calendar says it is August 31^st so when you flip the calendar to September the summer goes with it. We are in fall now and the air temperature says so……….brrrrrrr. Was walking yesterday and had to have my sweatshirt and yes……lightweight gloves on!! OH NO….where did summer go!!

 Now that the market is about over I have had a little time to start sewing some different stuff now. I haven’t been able to make anything new since May and I have spent every day replenishing my stock for the markets which is more running my embroidery machine than sewing so I am happy to be able to sew again.  Although I am very grateful for the summer market.  J

 I am starting to gear up on making products for the fall and Christmas shows and I think I am going to make a variety of tote bag and hand bags to go with scarves and lots of other items. Of course, hubby will do his cutting boards.

These are two of the shoulder bags that I made this week. I can put them out pretty fast so I thought I would start with them. What do you think?

 So now that I am not so busy with the markets I am going to be posting more often and I am going to be doing Tuesday’s Treasuries (finally figured out how to do it!) and some other fun stuff. I have lots of fall recipes to share with you and some neat decorating articles also. So stay tuned.
