STASH BUSTING....

Ok.....so....is your sewing room getting out of control?? Do you have what Stashbuster.com calls WOMBAT...."waste of material, batting and time". :) If so....it is time to clean up the fabrics, get those UFO's out of the box they have been hiding, at get busy "stashbusting".

Here are a few tips to help you get started:

Shop your own stash first:

One of my many cabinets and tubs of "stash". :)

Sell or swap with friends:

I have a group of ladies at the hospital where I volunteer that get together once a year and swap fabrics. We live in a small community so everyone shops at the same two fabric stores so that means everyone has the same fabrics. Well so many of us are now shopping online also that we are starting to get a variety of fabrics so this swap is really neat to see all the new fabrics.

Donate UFO's and/or fabric to charities:

If you have just so much fabric you don't know what to do with it all, consider donating it to a local charity. Many communities have quilt guilds that make quilts for community projects. Our hospital has a quilt for patient program that many ladies and gents in the area make quilts for this program. This is a great way to use up that stash of fabrics.

Make quilts for Quilts For Kids:

This is one of my favorite ways to use up my stash. The Quilt For Kids program is a group of volunteer quilters from everywhere that make quilts to be given to children for comfort in hospitals while they are sick and undergoing treatments.  This project was started by one women years ago and now has transformed into a huge effort that many companies have become involved with likes of Robert Kaufman Fabrics, Proctor & Gamble, Pellon and many, many more. I really enjoy making quilts for this cause. I just wish I had more time to make more.

So all of you quilters and sewers out there I am sure you need to "re-organize" those sewing rooms. So get busy and "stash bust"! That way you can make more room for MORE FABRIC!! :)

Happy Sewing!  :)

Look At What I Won!

I am so excited I just had to share with you what showed up in the mail yesterday!

My good blog friend Barb over at Mountain Quiltworks had a giveaway for these charm packs and guess who won.....yep ME!!! I told her I never win anything, but then remembered I did one time from another blog friend Barb (yep two Barb's) at Barb's HeartStrokes

There was a surprise in the box too!!! She sent me one of her hot packs to keep my toes warm in the cold winter months up here in the north country. How sweet of her! You can find these in her shop on Etsy

So I just wanted to share this and tell Barb thanks a bunch!!

Have a good day!

SUMMER MARKET

So how was everyone's Memorial Day weekend? Did you everyone have a good one? We did. I did my first market for the summer on Saturday and it was pretty good. Usually the first one is slow, but this year was a little better. I sold a few of hubby's burl bowls that are new this year. I think they will do well.

We did have a disaster at the market though. We set up by the river and it can get quite windy there and Saturday we had terrible winds! There was even a high wind warning.

So I am sure you know what happened......yep..............tents flying everywhere including mine and we all have them staked down good too. What happened is a big gust of wind came along and picked the tents up and threw them around. One vendor even dove on her tent to keep it from rolling into the street! Luckily we were all taking down and packing up so all our items were packed away. So needless to say my tent was all broken up, but.....my trusty Mr. McGiever hubby as rebuilt it and reinforced it so I am good to go for next week!

Also wanted to let you know that the Old Farmhouse Gathering team celebration is still going on this week so you can click on over here to join us this week. Or just type SCOFG in the Etsy search bar to see all the goodies. :)

SUMMER MARKET AND SHOPPING

The past two weeks have been so hectic around here! I am wrapping up everything getting ready for the summer market season so I haven't been able to be here visiting for a couple of weeks.....bad, bad, bad. :(

I think I have most everything ready. Needed to paint a few of the props as the are getting kind of beat up. Look nice and clean now I think....

This is the last of the pot holders getting ready to be put into the plastic tubs.

Still need to finish up these little ornaments. They are new this year. We always try to come up with something new each year. This year were the ornaments for me.....

And for hubby it is Alaskan Birch bowls. I think these will do real well or at least I hope they will. :)

So I think I got a good head start this year. The past few years I have spent most of my summer in my sewing room trying to keep up with products (which is a good thing!), but I miss out on my summer and being outside so this year I decided I was GOING to be ahead of the game for a change.

Also wanted to let you know that the Old Farmhouse Gathering team is having their Summer Celebration staring Monday! There will be a lot of new items from this wonderful and talented team so I hope you plan on attending the celebration. I will be posting the link starting Monday morning so stay tuned. :)

Have a great weekend! :)

WEEKEND OUTING

We have been blessed with an early Spring this year so we are able to get into the mountains earlier than normal this year. I know many of you had a terrible winter, but we were lucky...we had a mild winter. First one in many years!

It was a beautiful day on Saturday so we decided to go do some gold panning. My husband loves to do this hobby of his and I enjoy going with him when I can. Normally he does this on Saturday's during the summer while I am working at our local summer market. Sometimes we go on Sunday's, but usually if the weather is good that day we take our ATV's out or go canoeing. The summer season is so short up here that we all rush around trying to get all our playing done before the winter hits again.

This is the river that we go panning at. This is when the water is down. The snow has been melting some and when the run off gets going this river will be full.

These are some of the mountains around the area where we pan.

Here is hubby digging dirt by the river so we can pan for gold. He digs the dirt and puts it in that bucket and then I wash the dirt down our sluice box.

While I was waiting for hubby to fill the bucket with dirt I was taking all these pictures. While I was taking the pictures a bald eagle flew into this nest with a large bunch of grass to put into this nest. I just couldn't get my camera up and focused fast enough to get a picture of him! He flew off before I could snap him, but this is the nest they are working on. It was pretty neat.

We are just happy that we can get out again. We have lots of plans for "playing" this summer so hopefully the weather cooperates some. We usually have nice weather until the middle of July and then the rainy season comes. :(  Guess we will have to wait and see.

So that was my fun this past weekend. What did you do this past weekend?

Have a great week! :)
